Heat Treatment Technician
The specialist role on this side of the trade. No experience needed and full training given, including the equipment.
Base salary: GBP 30,000 to GBP 40,000 a year. Base pay only. On-target earnings are separate and explained below.
Heat treatment kills bed bugs at every life stage, including eggs, which is what most insecticides cannot reliably do. Your job is to make sure the whole room reaches and holds that temperature, including inside a mattress, behind a headboard and in the wall void, and to prove it with sensor data rather than assume it.
That means understanding how heat moves through a building. A Victorian bedroom with a suspended timber floor behaves nothing like a modern flat, and where you place the equipment and the sensors decides whether the treatment works.
No previous experience is required and full training is provided, including the RSPH (BPCA) Level 2 Award in Pest Management where the role calls for it.
You will work in hotels, student accommodation, HMOs and family homes, often with people waiting to move back in. Preparation advice given clearly beforehand is half of a successful job.
Hours are 40 to 45 a week depending on the shift pattern. Home-based with a company van.

Trainee Pest Control Technician
The way into the trade if you are practical, methodical and good with people having a bad week.
Base salary: GBP 26,000 to GBP 32,000 a year. Base pay only. On-target earnings are separate and explained below.
You start alongside a qualified technician and work towards the RSPH (BPCA) Level 2 Award in Pest Management while you earn. Training is provided and you do not pay for it.
The skill you will build first is inspection. Bed bugs leave evidence long before anyone sees a live insect: dark spotting along a mattress seam, shed skins in a bed frame joint, and eggs in places you have to know to look. Learning to read a room properly is what separates a treatment that works from one that is repeated.
You will also learn what is not bed bugs. A large share of call-outs turn out to be fleas, carpet beetle or a skin condition, and telling a customer honestly that they do not have an infestation is part of the job.

Experienced Pest Control Technician
For qualified technicians who want the treatments that other people have already failed at.
Base salary: GBP 30,000 to GBP 38,000 a year. Base pay only. On-target earnings are separate and explained below.
You will already be comfortable with routine work. What we want you for is the recurring case: the flat that has been treated three times, the block where the infestation moves between units through the service risers, and the landlord and tenant standoff where nobody will agree who prepares the property.
A current RSPH (BPCA) Level 2 or equivalent and hands-on treatment experience are expected. If your qualification has lapsed we can sort that out.
Resistance is a real part of this specialism now, and we would rather have technicians who can reason about why a chemical treatment failed than ones who repeat it harder.
